Former Idaho Steelhead goaltender Matt Zaba was called up by the NHL?s New York Rangers on Thursday. If the 26-year-old is in uniform Saturday night when the Rangers host Buffalo, he?ll be the tenth former Steelhead to dress for an NHL game this season (complete list below). Zaba appeared in 21 games during the 2007-08 season with the Steelheads, posting a 12-4-1 record with three shutouts. His .927 save percentage is the best all-time for the Steelheads among goaltenders who have appeared in at least ten games for the organization. He was a college teammate of current Steelheads Weston Tardy and Cody Lampl at Colorado College. This season, Zaba had moved back and forth between Hartford of the American Hockey League and Charlotte of the ECHL. Last season, he finished in the AHL?s top ten in save percentage and goals-against average. Here are the other former Steelheads to dress for NHL games this season, with the team: Jay Beagle (Capitals), Dan Ellis (Predators), Zenon Konopka (Lightning), BJ Crombeen (Blues), Francis Wathier (Stars), Aaron Gagnon (Stars), Tom Wandell (Stars), Warren Peters (Stars), and Matt Climie (Stars). All but Climie saw game action. The Steelheads return to home ice Friday night at 7 PM when then host the Ontario Reign as "Future Stars" weekend continues. The Steelheads will be wearing Dallas Stars jerseys and the visiting Reign will be wearing Los Angeles Kings jerseys. Tickets are available at the Qwest Arena box office or by calling 208.331.TIXS.
