(Boise, ID) ?Defensive back Terrance Sanders and defensive end Alex Guerrero have been named first-team All-af2 as announced by the league office on Wednesday. They are the first players in franchise history to receive first-team recognition. In addition, linebacker Levi Madarieta was named to the second team. ?I?m very proud of all three of those guys,? Burn head coach Brent Winter said. ?Hopefully we can keep going in the playoffs and prove that a few more guys deserved recognition as well.? Sanders, a second-year player out of Eastern Illinois, was actually selected twice, being named first-team as a defensive back and special-teams player. He led the team in tackles (80.5) and pass breakups (16) while finishing second on the team with seven interceptions. He led af2 in kickoff return average (29.8 per return) and tied for the league lead with seven kickoff returns for touchdowns. Guerrero, a rookie out of Boise State, set a Burn single-season franchise record with 10.5 sacks and tied the single-season record with 13 tackles-for-loss. Both of those marks ranked in the top-ten in the league. He also led Boise with three forced fumbles. Madarieta, an original member of the Burn organization, led the team with eight interceptions during the regular season and added two more in the playoff-opening win over Arkansas. The Weiser, ID, native tied for the af2 league lead with three interceptions returned for touchdowns. The Burn (13-4) will be on the road Saturday night, taking on the Spokane Shock (16-1) in the second round of the af2 National Conference Playoffs. Game time is 8 PM (Mtn) in Spokane. Fans can listen to the game on KGEM 1140 (AM) radio or watch online at www.boiseburn.com via NiFTy-TV. Scott Conklin will handle the play-by-play duties.
