Wildcats hand Burn rare loss

The Boise Burn had their 8 game winning streak snapped while the South Georgia Wildcats kept their division championship hopes alive with a 55-45 victory in front of a crowd of nearly 6 thousand fans at the Albany Civic Center in Albany, Georgia, Boise started the scoring on the opening drive of the game. Damian Walker capped off a 39 yard drive with a 2 yard TD run giving the Burn the early 7-0 lead. S. Georgia would answer on a 25 yard TD from Darnell Kennedy to Clenton Rafe, but a failed P.A.T would give Boise the 7-6 lead after the first quarter. The Wildcats outscored Boise 21-10 in the second quarter. Alvance Robinson?s 8 yard TD gave the home team their first lead of the game at 13-7. Damian Walker?s second TD of the game put Boise back on top for the final time of the night at 14-13. Antwone Savage?s TD put S. Georgia up for good at 20-14. Following a Ben Scott field goal, Robinson increased the lead to 10 on his second score of the night as the Wildcats took a 27-17 lead into the break. Darnell Kennedy (Russell Athletic offensive player of the Game) showed why he is a double threat as he avoided a sack, and raced 31 yard for the score giving South Georgia their biggest lead of the night at 34-17. The Burn would answer on a Taylor Tharp to Nichiren Flowers 26 yard TD but the Wildcats Clenton Rafe?s 2nd Td of the night, from 41 yards out increased the lead back to 17 after the 3rd quarter. Boise would win the scoring battle in the 4th 21-14. Jomo Wilson scored on the first play of the final quarter on a 45 yard strike from Tharp. It was back ands forth from there, as Robinson?s 3rd TD of the game put the lead back to 16. Wilson, who had 3 TD in the final quarter, cut the lead to 9 on a 15 yard TD. Kennedy and Wilson would swap scores from their as the Wildcats keep their division champion hopes alive, while snapping the Burn?s 8 game winning streak, with the 55-45 victory. The Burn return home a week from tonight for their regular season finale against top seeded Spokane on July 26th. Kick off is at 7:10 (MT). Game Notes: Alex Guerrero set a franchise record with his 10.5 sack of the season in the 3rd quarter, surpassing Travis Tofi?s 10 sacks set in 2009. Jomo Wilson had 3 TD?s (all in the 4th quarter) giving him 20 TD?s on the season. The Burn allowed 3 sacks vs. S. Georgia. They had allowed 4 all season coming into the game.
