(Boise, ID) Idaho Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal will be on-hand at Idaho Ice World on Sunday, August 2, for the annual ?Break the Ice? Pepsi Free-Skate day. The event runs from 12:30 to 3:30 at Idaho Ice World off of Gowan Road in southeast Boise, next door to the Boise Outlet Mall. Laxdal is expected to be there for the first hour of the event. Ice World?s ?Break the Ice? event offers people an opportunity to sign up for any of the programs available at the facility, from youth hockey to figure skating. Pepsi Free-Skate Day runs concurrently with signups, allowing the public a chance to pull on a pair of skates and get on the ice for free. Idaho Ice World is operated by the Boise Parks and Recreation department. Former Steelhead all-star Jeremy Mylymok is the facility?s director of hockey operations. Laxdal is going into his fifth season as head coach of the Idaho Steelheads, boasting a career coaching mark in Idaho of 169-91-20, and led the team to the ECHL?s Kelly Cup Championship in 2007. A Laxdal-led Steelhead team has never won fewer than 40 games. The Steelheads open the 2009-2010 campaign on October 16, at Qwest Arena, against the Stockton Thunder. Season-Ticket packages begin at just $450 per seat, with partial plans available for as little as $150 per seat. New this season is the Gold Club Membership. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 for more information.
