Former Idaho Steelheads goaltender Matt Climie has signed a contract with the NHL?s Dallas Stars for the 2009-2010 season. The deal, announced Tuesday, is a two-way contract between Dallas and Austin of the American Hockey League, the Stars? top minor-league affiliate. The 26-year-old out of Bemidji State spent most of this past season in the ECHL with the Steelheads, posting a 27-12-1 record, 2.30 goals-against average, and .915 save percentage. Each of those marks were among the ECHL?s best. On April 4, Climie was called up from Idaho to Dallas and made his NHL debut against the Saint Louis Blues. He wound up making three starts for the Stars before returning to Idaho, going 2-1 with a 2.92 goals-against average. Once the Steelheads were eliminated from the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs, Climie was assigned to Houston of the AHL, where he started two games in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the Aeros. He went 1-1 with the Aeros with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage. Climie was named the ECHL ?Saver of the Month? in March and ECHL Rookie of the Month in December. The Stars organization now has four goaltenders under contract?Climie, Marty Turco, Brent Krahn, and Richard Bachman. Ticket packages for the 2009-2010 Idaho Steelheads season are on sale now.
