An Alex Guerrero sack and a Stephen Irvine 41 yard missed field goal at the end of regulation were the two final plays in Boise?s game with the Stockton as the Burn held on for the 57-54 victory over the Lightning in front of 4,297 fans at Qwest Arena. Stockton (4-8) came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. 5:30 minutes into the game, Peter Tuialuuluu capped off a 45 yard drive with a 1 yard TD run and the early 7-0 lead. Boise turned to their dynamic duo on their first offensive possession. Wide receiver Nichiren Flowers hauled in a 16 yard pass (Big Game Catch of the game) from QB Taylor Tharp tying the game up at 7. Stockton outscored Boise 21-16 in the second quarter. Cavendar connected with Troy McBroom (Russell Athletic player if the Game) 3 times in the second frame, the first from 5 yards out for the 14-7 lead. 2:45 later Jomo Wilson?s 19 yard TD catch (missed P.A.T) cut the lead to 1 at 14-13. Following McBroom?s second TD of the game, Jerard Rabb found the end zone for the first of two score on the night keeping Boise close at 21-20. McBroom?s 3rd TD came with 1:15 left in the half, but it was Ben Scott?s 28 yard field goal that shifted that got the Burn to within 5 at 28-23 shifting the momentum to Boise going into half The Burn outscored the Lightning 21-7 in the 3rd quarter. Wilson?s 31 yard Td gave Boise their first lead of the game at 30-28 and following a defensive stop, Damian Walker?s 1 yard TD run put Boise up by 9, 37-28. Brandon Horace and Jerard Rabb exchanged touchdowns over the final 5 minutes of the quarter and Boise went in the 4th up 9 44-35. Boise took their biggest lead of the game on a 1 yard Alex Guerrero TD run and the Burn appeared to be headed to an easy victory. But thanks to 3 Boise Burn turnovers on 3 straight offensive plays, the Lightning scored 19 unanswered points and took the 54-50 lead with 7:44 left in the game. The Burn?s final drive would eat up most of the clock and it was Walker?s 14th TD of the year and second 1 yard score of the game that gave Boise the lead for good at 57-54. Guerrero (JLS Ironman of the Game) finished off a career night with his 3rd sack of the night and the Burn defense held the Lightning to a field goal attempt at the end of regulation which sailed right giving Boise the 57-54 victory improving their franchise record tenth win of the season. Boise (10-2) hits the road next week as they look to complete the season sweep of the division rival Central Valley Coyotes (3-9). The Burn will then take a week off for their second bye of the season before returning home on July 11th to host the Tri-Cities Fever. The Burn are 2-0 vs. the Coyotes in 2009. Kick off is at 8:00pm (MT). Game Notes: The Boise Burn made it a clean sweep of Stockton beating them all 3 times this year and now have won 7 in a row against the Lightning.
