The Idaho Steelheads (39-22-4) beat the Victoria Salmon Kings (35-26-7) 4-2 in front of 5,448 fans at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre. With the win, the Steelheads have captured six wins in seven games against Victoria this season. Bryan McGregor put the Steelheads on the board first with a lightning-fast wrister past Victoria?s Todd Ford 5:13 of the first period; Tyler Shelast and Brandon Svendsen registered assists on the game?s first goal. McGregor found the net once again in the second period to make it a 2-0 Steelheads lead; he redirected a Kyle Radke point shot to pick up his 28th goal of the season at 11:36 of the middle frame. Olivier Filion cut the Steelheads lead at 15:03 of the second period, making the score 2-1. In the third period, there would be no scoring until Brent Shepheard scored the empty-netter at 19:09, assisted by McGregor. Shortly thereafter, Trevor Ludwig was called for delay of game, so Victoria coach Mark Morrison left the net empty at the Salmon Kings? end. After the ensuing faceoff, Shelast would find McGregor moving in on the empty net, and McGregor completed the hat trick with six seconds remaining. McGregor became only the second Steelhead this season to earn a hat trick; Kris Sparre pulled off the feat on February 9 in Stockton. Bryan McGregor also tied a Steelheads season-high with four points in the game. Matt Climie earned the win, stopping 21 of 23 to improve to 24-12-1. Todd Ford suffered the loss, as he stopped 14 of 16. His record falls to 16-14-1 for Victoria. The Steelheads are back in action Wednesday night, as the Ontario Reign will pay its first visit to Qwest Arena. The puck drops at 7:10 PM.
