Leading up to the opening of training camp, boiseburn.com will give you a closer look at the position-by-position breakdown of players who have been signed by the Burn and are expected to attend camp. Other players may be added at each position before the season opens March 28 at Tri-Cities. Preseason Position Analysis: Defensive Line Signed**: 4 Returning: Mark Weivoda, Alex Guerrero, Garrett Smith New: Chris White Mark Weivoda: A graduate of Caldwell High School, Weivoda had an outstanding 2008 season from the defensive tackle position. He led the team with thirteen tackles for loss and was credited with 9.5 sacks. Had two sacks in Boise?s home-opening win over Tri-Cities and was credited with at least half a sack in each of Boise?s last seven games. Had ten tackles for loss in that same span. Played alongside NFL great Jared Allen on the defensive line at Idaho State. Alex Guerrero: Played in the 2008 season-finale at Spokane, making three tackles (including one for loss) against the Shock. He also recovered a fumble and caught a pass in that game. Was a huge fan favorite at Boise State from 2002 to 2005 and spent part of 2006 on the practice squad for the NFL?s Minnesota Vikings. Also spent time in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. Garrett Smith: Appeared in 11 games for the Burn last season and was credited with 6.5 tackles. Also recovered a fumble at Daytona Beach. Smith could also see time at fullback for the Burn in 2009. He had one carry for two yards last season. He also spent two seasons with the AFL?s Utah Blaze. Was a first-team All Mountain West performer at Utah in 2001 and 2002. Chris White: Was named first-team All Great West Football Conference following his junior and senior seasons at Cal Poly and was named to numerous 1-AA All-American teams. As a nose tackle, he was credited with 108 total tackles (36.5 for loss) in his Mustang career. Signed with the CFL?s Calgary Stampeders when his college career ended, but did not play due to injury. **: Players signed as of February 12
