Steelheads unable to complete sweep of Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV- The Steelheads (6-6-2) were unable to make it three wins in a row tonight as the Las Vegas Wranglers (5-6-1) beat Idaho 7-1 in front of 4,635 fans at the Orleans Arena. It was a different story tonight, as the Wranglers popped home the first three goals of the hockey game. The scoring was opened by Jeff May, as he scored a shorthanded goal. It was the first shorthanded tally given up by the Steelheads this season. May also scored the first goal of the second period to put the Wranglers up 2-0; the goal was his third. The Steelheads went down 3-0 after Justin Taylor?s first of two goals in the game, before Ben Nelson put Idaho on the board to make it 3-1. The assist on Nelson?s goal, at 2:41 of the second period, went to Matt Stephenson. However, it was after the Wranglers? third goal that Idaho starting netminder Matt Climie was removed from the game, and Rejean Beauchemin was inserted. The rest of the scoring was all Wranglers, as Mike Hamilton scored the second shorthanded goal of the night for Las Vegas in the second period, and Chris Ferraro, Chris Korchinski, and Justin Taylor scored in the third period. Jeff May had two goals and two assists to lead the way for Las Vegas tonight. Perhaps the most noticeable statistic of the evening was the penalty minute total, as the teams combined for 114 minutes in penalties. In all, there were six fights in the contest; Idaho?s Justin Bourne and Adam Welch received misconduct penalties tonight, as did the Wranglers? J.D. Watt. Climie made seven saves on 10 Las Vegas shots, and took the loss to fall to 3-4-0. In his first relief appearance of the season, Beauchemin stopped 14 of 18 shots. In the win, the Wranglers? John DeCaro stopped 24 of 25 Idaho shots to improve to 3-1-0 on the season.
