Steelheads Topple Trenton, 3-1

Trenton, NJ- The Steelheads (3-2-1-1) finished their eastern swing with a victory over the Trenton Devils (2-5-0-1) in front of 2,094 fans at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ. Bryan McGregor scored the game?s first goal in the first period as a centering pass took a Steelheads bounce into the net behind Trenton goalie Jason Smith. Brent Shepheard and Adam Welch picked up assists on the goal at 18:45 of the first. The Steelheads outshot Trenton 13-3 in the first period. The second period saw the Steelheads get out to a 3-0 lead; a margin of which Idaho was on the wrong side one night ago. Bryan McGregor scored his second goal of the game, and eventual game-winner, for the Steelheads at 2:25; Shepheard and Welch picked up assists on McGregor?s second goal of the game, just as they did on the first. Ben Nelson made it 3-0 Steelheads with his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 3:05; the assists went to Kory Scoran and Marty Flichel. Ryan Gunderson scored his second of the season for the Devils before the end of the period on the power play. However, shortly before the end of the period, Trenton?s Robert Page put the elbow up on Idaho?s Kris Sparre, which earned Page a major penalty for elbowing. Trenton killed off the major penalty, but the Devils were unable to come back in the third period, which yielded no scoring. Rejean Beauchemin picked up his first win of the season (1-1-1-1) stopping 17 out of 18 shots. Jason Smith fell to 0-3-0-1 with the loss, as he stopped 35 of 38 Steelheads shots.
