BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (@Steelheads), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the Dallas Stars (@DallasStars), and Steelheads Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Everett Sheen announced today that the Dallas Stars (NHL) have reassigned forward Angus MacDonell and defenseman Niilopekka Muhonen to the Steelheads from the Texas Stars (AHL).
MacDonell, 21, returns to Idaho after skating in 43 games for the Steelheads last season. The forward collected 22 points in that time (8G, 14A) and was one of 12 Steelheads rookies to reach double-digit points last season.
Prior to his time with Idaho, the 5-foot-10 forward played four seasons in the OHL, skating for the Sarnia Sting and Mississauga/Brampton Steelheads. Over 227 OHL games, the Toronto native collected 178 points (98G, 80A), helping him earn a three-year entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars on March 11, 2025.
Muhonen, 20, enters Idaho ready for his first professional hockey experience after spending the last two seasons in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers. Across those two campaigns, Muhonen grabbed 29 points (4G, 25A) in 99 games, with an additional five points (2G, 3A) in 32 playoff contests.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound blueliner helped Medicine Hat capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions during the 2024-25 season, with the club reaching the Memorial Cup Final against the London Knights.
The Kuopio, Finland native was selected by the Dallas Stars in the fifth round (158th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft, and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Stars on July 1, 2025.
The Idaho Steelheads kick off their 29th season on October 16th at New Mexico and will host the Allen Americans on October 23rd for their home opener.
