Gainey's "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" isn't enough

Boise, ID - It?s not every day you see a ?Gordie Howe Hat Trick?- a goal, an assist, and a fight from one player- but Idaho?s Steve Gainey put one together tonight in front of 2,820 fans at Qwest Arena. Bryan McGregor also managed three assists for Idaho. The Steelheads, however, could not put together a win, as the Falcons escaped tonight with a 5-4 victory. Fresno (7-3-0) entered tonight in first place in the Pacific Division and opened the scoring with a Mike Radja goal, his sixth, at 16:34 of the first period. It was a power play goal that beat Idaho?s Matt Climie, assisted by Dustin Sproat and Josh Prudden. Idaho (4-5-2) answered with the first goal of the second period. Kris Sparre beat Joe Fallon for his first of the season at 6:40, with an assist going to Bryan McGregor. But as the goal was being announced in Qwest Arena, Fresno struck again. Daryl Marcoux scored his first, with Radja picking up the assist, and Fresno led 2-1. Just over two minutes later on a power play, Igor Gongalsky put the Falcons up 3-1, with an assist going to Adam Berti. Brent Shepheard scored the final goal of an eventful period for the Steelheads when he pulled them to within one (3-2) at 17:18, with assists going to McGregor and Garett Bembridge. Kenny MacAulay scored the first goal of the third period at 0:35, with an assist going to Oren Eizenman. At 4:54 of the third, Gainey pulled the Steelheads to within one, with assists going to Matt Stephenson and McGregor, before Steelheads captain Marty Flichel tied the contest on the power play at 9:52. Assists on Flichel?s fifth of the season were credited to Riley Weselowski and Gainey. Radja capitalized on a turnover, as he netted the game-winner for the Falcons at 11:54. The goal was his seventh, and was unassisted. Climie stopped 19 of 24 Fresno shots, as his record fell to 3-3 on the year. Fallon improved to 4-2 with the win, stopping 34 of 38 Idaho shots.
