Two three-goal periods do the trick for Reading

Reading, PA- The Idaho Steelheads saw their record fall to 2-2-1-1 in Reading tonight in front of 5,821 fans at the Sovereign Center. Two big periods were the story for the Royals (2-4), as they had three goals in the first and third periods of the game. The first period was a physical one on both sides with no shortage of words exchanged at the conclusions of plays and a fight between Steelhead Kyle Radke and Reading?s Matt Herneisen, but it was Reading who controlled the scoreboard. In the first period, Reading shot out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Jeff Corey, Shawn Snider, and Matt Herneisen. Idaho goalie Matt Climie came out with something to prove in the second period, and he was perfect; stopping all 11 Reading shots he faced. Also, his team cut the Reading lead to two goals. Ben Nelson scored on the power play at 7:11 with assists going to Marty Flichel and Steve Gainey. The Royals poured the pressure on again in period number three, as the Royals tacked on three more goals. Finding the back of the net for Reading were Mike Salekin, Dan Rudisuela, and Mac Faulkner. Steve Gainey scored in the period- a goal that made it 4-2 Royals- but it was not enough. Assisting on Gainey?s power play goal, his second of the season at 12:30, were Nelson and Garett Bembridge. Matt Climie (2-1) stopped 23 of 29 Reading shots in taking the loss. Danny Taylor stopped 36 of 38 Idaho shots for Reading, improving to 1-3 on the season.
