Where Are They Now? TERRY RYAN

The Idaho Steelheads are running a series of Where Are They Now? to catch up with some former players and will post, in their own words, what they're up to and what they remember about their days spent with the Steelheads. The first in our series is Terry Ryan, who played with the Steelheads (then part of the West Coast Hockey League) in 2001-02. Terry was a first-round draft pick (8th overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played in eight NHL games, with Montreal, before he came to Idaho. While playing in Idaho that season (01-02) I injured my ankle and it never fully recovered so I took a few yrs off, but squeaked out the last part of 02-03 in Orlando playing for the now defunct Orlando Seals and we won a championship. I began playing for Canada's National Ball hockey team if you can believe it, I can't remember the website but if you google it you will see what I mean. For three yrs I was a Red Bull Sales rep in Newfoundland where I am from, and just this last yr I moved out to Red Deer, Alberta, to work (I played junior there with Scott Burt). While there I joined a Senior Hockey team which was great calibre hockey (No veteran rule), but most guys have jobs on the side as the schedule is only 24 games reg season. For me this worked out great, less wear and tear on the ankle. I met a great friend who I used to hang out with back in the junior days, Danielle Young. Danielle was married to BJ Young who passed away in a car accident in 2005. Long story short we are married now and raising their son, Tison. I keep in contact with most guys from that season as I had a blast in Idaho, and am actually looking for a reason to return for a visit so I am inn for whatever plans you guys make. Thanks again for including me. Oh ya, favorite Steelheads moment?? I guess it was being there for Cal Ingraham's last season/last game. Great hockey player and great guy. On a personal level it was winning a fight against Darcy Johnson who injured Jeremy Mylmok 2 months earlier. I still keep in contact with Mysly. Great dude...Terry Ryan
