Boise Burn and SmartHealth? Team Up to Kick Breast Cancer

The Boise Burn and SmartHealth Insurance will host a fundraising event called ?Pink on the Turf? on May 3 to support and promote the 2008 Komen Boise Race for the Cure®. During the May 3 game, Boise Burn players will wear one-of-a-kind pink uniforms when they kick off at 7:10 p.m. against the Stockton Lightning at Qwest Arena. Silent auction tables will be set up on the concourse during the game and fans may bid on their favorite player?s jersey in increments of $50 and/or buy it outright for $1,500. The jerseys will be presented to the winning bidder by the player on the field immediately following the game. All of the dollars raised from the jersey auction will go directly to Komen Boise Race for the Cure?.?We are thrilled to be partnering with SmartHealth and the Boise Burn. With their support and the support of our race participants, we are able to fund breast cancer screening, education and treatment programs in our local communities; as well as breast cancer research at the national level,? said Mary Guinard, Executive Director of the Boise Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.?As a company committed to health and well being, all of us at the Primary Health family of companies recognized instantly that bringing together the Boise Burn, the Komen Race for the Cure and SmartHealth, was a good fit for our community,? said Dave Self, president and chief operating officer, Primary Health, Inc. ?As a team we will be able to raise awareness and funding for the important work of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.?The jerseys are white with a light pink trim on the neck and sleeves and a light pink stripe that runs along the sides. The numbers and nameplates are dark pink with pewter piping. Each shoulder depicts a burning light pink ribbon with a pink Burn logo in the center. The underside of the sleeves as well as the Boise Burn wordmark on the front chest are in the team?s pewter and the letters are outlined in light pink. The right chest is emblazoned with the Komen logo and the right chest is adorned with the SmartHealth crest. Five thousand pink bang sticks will be handed out free at the door and volunteers will be selling pink footballs for a football toss and raffle tickets for a team-autographed pink jersey with proceeds going to Komen Boise Race for the Cure?. Prior to the game beginning at 5 p.m., fans can stop by the Komen and SmartHealth table at the Boise Burn tailgate party, located in the Grove Plaza, to sign up to participate in the Race for the Cure and also enter a raffle to win a pink scooter.?Pink on the Turf? will be the first jersey auction fundraising event for the Boise Burn, who are in their second season of play. The Idaho Steelheads Hockey Club has held two similar auctions called ?Pink in the Rink? and raised over $50,000 for St. Luke?s Regional Medical Center (MSTI).Tickets for the May 3 game are on sale now and are available exclusively at the Qwest Arena Box Office, by phone 331.TIXS (8497), or online using the new print at home feature at www.boiseburn.com.
