Condors? forward Tim Konsorada broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period to lift his team to a 3-2 win over the Steelheads, dropping the defending Kelly Cup Champions to their fourth loss in the last five games, in front of 3,300 fans at Rabobank Arena on Monday night. It?s the first regulation loss for the Steelheads (33-21-9) against the Condors (19-33-9) this season, as they concluded their eight-game season series and it also dropped the club to 1-4-0 on their six-game road trip. The Condors earned the only tally of the first period, collecting a power play goal at 14:24 of the frame. Steelheads? goaltender Matt Zaba (33 saves) made the initial save on Andrew Ianiero?s shot from the top of the crease, but Tom Boudreau swept home the rebound for his third of the year. Martin Frechette picked up the second assist.Through 20 minutes of play the Condors led in shots 12-7.At the 10:04 mark of the second period the Steelheads evened the score off a man advantage marker by Lance Galbraith. On the play, Marty Flichel fed the puck down to Taggart Desmet at the goal line, who quickly fired the puck to across the crease to Galbraith where he slammed it home for his second goal in as many nights and his 19th of the season. The Condors regained their one-goal lead at 12:22 when Brett Lutes batted a bouncing puck out of mid air and past a stunned Zaba. Konsorada gained the only assist, as took the original shot, a wrister that sailed over Zaba before caroming off the glass and bouncing into the Stelheads? slot. John Lammers pulled the Steelheads even at two just 1:28 later, potting his 24th of the campaign from Galbraith and Darrell Hay, an even-strength goal.Early in the third period the Condors snagged a 3-2 advantage, as Konsorada rocketed a shot from the top of the right circle over the blocker side of Zaba for his 29th of the year. Lutes and Frechette set up the eventual game-winner.The final shots favored the Condors 36-27, with both teams converting once on the power play.Zaba, who had won four of his last five decisions, saw his record dip to 13-8-2. Meanwhile, Fukufuji (11-15-1) won for the second time in six tries against the Steelheads. The Steelheads conclude their six-game road trip with a tilt against the Fresno Falcons on Tuesday, March 11.
