BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (@Steelheads), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the Dallas Stars (@DallasStars), and Steelheads Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Everett Sheen announced today that the club has signed defenseman Nick Young to an ECHL contract for the 2026-27 season.
Young, 24, rejoins the Steelheads after skating with Idaho for 11 games last season for his first ECHL experience. The 6-foot-3 blueliner picked up two goals and an assist in his stint with Idaho last year to go along with a plus-minus rating of +1 and 12 PIM.
Prior to pro hockey, the Raleigh, NC native played four seasons at Union College in New York. The right-shot defenseman was a steady presence over his four-year tenure, skating in 144 games and grabbing 30 points (7G, 23A) for the Garnet Chargers.
Young served as Union’s captain during the 2025-26 campaign in what was his senior season with the team.
The Idaho Steelheads kick off their 29th season on October 16th at New Mexico and will host the Allen Americans on October 23rd for their home opener.
