NICHOLAS CANADE SCORES TWICE IN FEISTY WIN OVER AMERICANS, 4-2

BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (28-13-1-1, 58pts) defeated the Allen Americans (18-22-2-1, 39pts) by a final score of 4-2in front of a sellout crowd of 5,213 at the Idaho Central Arena. It was the 22nd sellout of the season in the 22rd home game including the 20th consecutive. Idaho and Allen will meet for the final time this season tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. 

Nicholas Canade (2ndgave the Steelheads a 1-0 lead 4:52 into the game with a backhand shot from the left circle beating Marco Constantini short-side. Ty Pelton-Byce and Colton Kehler would notch assists. Johnny Walker (4th) tied the game at 9:39 on a rebound goal in front. Idaho outshot Allen 13-10 in the period with the score even at one. 

On their first power-play opportunity of the game A.J. White (15th) scored his ninth on the man advantage at 3:57 of the second period making it 2-1. Francesco Arcuri and Matt Register tallied assists as White tipped the puck home from the high slot. Mark Rassell (23rd) increased the lead to 3-1 at 8:20 on a deflection at the near post from Patrick Kudla and Wade Murphy. With just 1:38 left in the frame Nicholas Canade (3rd) grabbed his second of the night with a shot from the left circle from Patrick Kudla and Jade Miller. Shots were 14-6 in the frame as the Steelheads took a 4-1 lead into the dressing room through 40 minutes. 

The Steelheads were assessed a five-minute major 3:54 into the final period and Colby McAuley (20th) scored 22 seconds into the man advantage to cut the Allen deficit down to two. The Americans would strike just once on the power-play. Things got interesting in the third with 42 combined penalty minutes as Idaho would prevail 4-2. 

Bryan Thomson made 32 saves on 34 shots in the win while Marco Constantini turned aside 32 of the 36 shots he faced in the loss.

GAME NOTES

  • Idaho went 1-for-4 on the power-play while Allen was 1-for-3. 
  • Idhao outshot Allen 36-33.  
  • Idaho is 34-19-5 all-time vs. Allen and 23-7-3 in Boise.  
  • Sam Sternschein (IR), David Tendeck (IR), Cooper Jones (DNP), Bailey Conger (DNP) and Demetrios Koumontzis (DNP) did not dress for Idaho. 
  • Nick Canade scored his first multi-goal game of his Steelheads career. 
  • Ty Pelton-Byce lifted his point streak to five games (1-8-9) with an assist which was his 100th professional point. He led all skaters with eight shots on net. 
  • Patrick Kudla recorded two assists for the second straight game. 
  • Wade Murphy increased his point streak to six games (3-4-7) with an assist. 
  • Francesco Arcuri, Jade Miller, Colton Kehler, and Matt Register each recorded an assist. 
  • Jordan Kawaguchi made his season debut.
