IDAHO STEELHEADS WEEKLY – WEEK 1 – 10/23/23 

BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (@Steelheads), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the Dallas Stars (@DallasStars), split their weekend series vs. Allen in Boise this past weekend and travel to Utah to face the Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday night.

Idaho trailed 3-0 before Jade Miller scored 2:27 into the third period. 2:25 later Allen took a 4-1 lead but 15 seconds after Wade Murphy pulled the game back within two. The Americans scored their fifth of the game with 5:56 remaining in regulation.

Keaton Mastrodonato (1-3-4) and Ben Zloty (1-2-3) each scored their first professional goals while Aaron Aragon tallied his first ECHL goal. 12 different skaters recorded a point and six players had multi-point outings.

#6 Wade Murphy is three points shy of 100 career ECHL points. 

#34 Colton Kehler is one game shy of 150 career professional games. 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

#8 Keaton Mastrodonato tallied his first pro goal on Saturday night while finishing with three assistst. The 23-year-old rookie under an AHL contract led Canisius College in scoring last season with 36 points (16G, 20A). 

#34 Colton Kehler scored twice and added an assist on Saturday night. It was his fourth multi goal game of his Steelheads career. He had a penalty shot at 15:19 of the third period Saturday which was stopped by Mark Sinclair.

#44 Ben Zloty tallied his first professional goal on Saturday night while also adding two assists. He made his pro debut on Friday night. The 21-year-old rookie under an AHL contract led all WHL defensemen in scoring last season with 81 points (13G, 68A) with the Winnipeg Ice. 

#92 Mark Rassell scored his first as a Steelhead Saturday night while also tallying two assists. The second year pro finished fourth in scoring (21G, 29A) last season with the Fort Wayne Komets. 

TEAM NOTES

SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS

Idaho registered 45 shots on Friday night and 43 on Saturday night. They lead the ECHL after the opening weekend averaging 44 shots per game. 

SPECIAL TEAMS 

The Steelheads finished the weekend just 1-for-12 on the power-play allowing three short-handed goals. They surrendered two power-play goals against in nine short-handed deficits. 

COLLECTIVE EFFORT

Over the two games four players made their professional debuts while one made their ECHL debut … Seven made their Idaho debut … Nine different skaters scored a goal … 14 recorded a point.
