Boise, ID (2/6/16)— Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Saturday that the team has acquired the rights to forward Radoslav Illo from the Norfolk Admirals. Illo will be available to the Steelheads for Saturday night’s rubber-match with the Alaska Aces at CenturyLink Arena.
Illo, 26, is playing his second full professional season and first full professional campaign in North America. The native of Bystrica, Slovakia played four seasons of college hockey at Bemidji State University prior to turning pro.
A fifth-round draft pick (136th overall) of the Anaheim Ducks in 2009, Illo has played 18 games in the ECHL this season, one with the Tulsa Oilers and 17 with the Norfolk Admirals. Illo has collected three goals and six points this season.
The 5’11”, 200 pound forward played his first professional season last year in Slovakia with MHC Martin in the Slovak Extraliga. He tallied five goals and 13 points in 37 games.
In four seasons at Bemidji State between 2010 and 2014, Illo netted 25 goals and 54 points. He was a member of the WCHA’s All-Academic Team in 2012-13. Illo played three games with the Admirals, then in the American Hockey League, at the end of his senior season.
Prior to attending Bemidji State, Illo scored 45 goals and 76 points in two seasons with the Tri-City Storm in the USHL. He represented Slovakia at the World Junior Championships in 2010, tallying two goals and five points in six games.
