Boise, ID (12/1/15)— Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced Tuesday that the Steelheads have acquired defenseman Zach Yuen from the Atlanta Gladiators in exchange for defenseman Cole Martin.
Yuen, 22, is playing in his third professional season, already netting a goal and eight points for Atlanta. That includes three assists against Idaho this season, all earned on November 6th at CenturyLink Arena.
Yuen, a fourth-round draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2011, has played 127 of his 130 pro games in the ECHL with the Orlando Solar Bears, Wheeling Nailers, and Atlanta Gladiators, totaling 11 goals and 43 points in his career. The Vancouver, B.C. native is coming off his best season, scoring nine goals and 23 points last year split between Wheeling and Atlanta.
Yuen was a star defenseman for parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Tri-City Americans, racking up 118 points during that time and posting the league’s best plus/minus rating during the 2011-12 season with a plus-45 rating.
“Zach is a mobile defenseman who has a good shot and competes hard,” said Graham.
Martin heads to the Gladiators after scoring three goals and adding two assists in 15 games with the Steelheads.
The Steelheads host the Florida Everblades at CenturyLink Arena on Wednesday night at 7:10pm. Each Wednesday night at CenturyLink Arena, Bud Light present $2 Beer Wednesdays where fans (21 and up) can purchase small beers for just $2 thru the end of the 2nd period of play.
