Salt Lake City, UT (12/28/15)— Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced Monday that goaltender Jack Campbell has joined the team in Salt Lake City and will be available for the Steelheads’ Monday night game against the Utah Grizzlies at Maverik Center. Campbell was reassigned to the Steelheads by the Dallas Stars, moving from the AHL’s Texas Stars on Sunday.
Campbell, 23, is in his fifth professional season and has played 12 games this season with AHL Texas. This is Campbell’s second stint in Idaho, after having played seven games with the Steelheads last season. Campbell went 5-2-0 for the Steelheads, with a 1.73 goals-against average, a .945 save percentage, and a shutout.
Campbell was a first round draft pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL Draft, taken 11th overall. Campbell has appeared in 123 professional games, including one NHL game with the Dallas Stars, seven games for the Steelheads, and 115 games for the Texas Stars. Campbell has a career record of 57-45-13.
The Port Huron, Michigan native has also been a fixture for USA Hockey since he came through the United States National Team Development Program. Campbell won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championships and a bronze medal at the 2011 World Juniors Championships. Campbell also won a bronze medal with Team USA at the World Championships in 2015.
“Jack has a very good attitude and is always willing to learn and get better,” said Graham. “He will fit in well with our group.”
Campbell joins the Steelheads after goaltender Maxime Lagace was called up to the Texas Stars from Idaho on Saturday. The Steelheads are carrying three goaltenders on the roster, as Campbell joins Philippe Desrosiers and Chris Rawlings, who was signed on Saturday following Lagace’s recall.
The Steelheads and Grizzlies battle tonight at 7:05pm MT, with the Steelheads looking to push their points streak to seven consecutive games. The game can be heard on 1350 KTIK and seen on ECHLTV.
