CenturyLink/Idaho Statesman Hat Trick Reading Program to launch Thursday

Boise, ID (12/1/15)— The Idaho Steelheads, joined by libraries throughout the Treasure Valley, will kick off this year’s CenturyLink/Idaho Statesman Hat Trick Reading Program with a launch party on Thursday afternoon, December 3rd.

Boise Public Library will host the free one-hour launch party beginning at 4pm at Hayes Auditorium. Children in attendance will enjoy games and activities, and will also have an opportunity to meet a member of the Steelheads.

The CenturyLink/Idaho Statesman Hat Trick Reading Program rewards young hockey fans for reading at home with their families, offering children tickets and Steelheads gear for each “goal” they score. They keep track of those goals with a special Steelheads bookmark that they receive at the beginning of the program.

The first goal for participants, going to their local library to get a library card and check out a book, will earn them a ticket to a Steelheads game. The second goal, reading with a family member for 20 minutes for seven days, will earn them another Steelheads ticket. To complete the “hat trick”, students can write a 100-word essay about the Steelheads or draw a picture, which will earn them a Steelheads cap.

“Reading skills are such an important part of a young person’s education,” said Steelheads President Eric Trapp. “The Steelheads are active throughout the year in visiting schools and meeting young students, but this program is a terrific opportunity to play an even greater role introducing children to books.”

Hayes Auditorium is located at 715 S. Capitol Boulevard in Boise.

The CenturyLink/Idaho Statesman Hat Trick Reading Program will conclude with a free public skate, held at CenturyLink Arena on March 20th from 2-4pm.

The following libraries are participating in this year’s program: Boise Public Library- Cole & Ustick, Hillcrest, and Collister; Ada Community Library- Hidden Springs, Lake Hazel, Victory, and Star; Meridian Library District- Cherry Lane and Silverton; Kuna Library, Nampa Library, and Caldwell Public Library.

The Steelheads host the Florida Everblades at CenturyLink Arena on Wednesday night at 7:10pm. For single-game tickets or for information on season ticket plans, contact the Idaho Steelheads at 208-383-0080 or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
