Boise, ID (7/14/2015) – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Tuesday that the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads have agreed to terms with defenseman Daniel Johnston.
Johnston, who turns 23 the day after Idaho’s season opener, is entering his third professional season. The Calgary native has appeared 124 ECHL games, split between Evansville and Colorado, where he has posted 41 points (ten goals, 31 assists) and 161 penalty minutes. He played with Colorado against Idaho in the ECHL’s longest game, a four-overtime epic during the 2014 playoffs won by the Steelheads. Prior to that, he was a teammate of former Steelhead and ECHL All Star Austin Fyten with Lethbridge in the Western Hockey League of major junior hockey.
Johnston is the second defenseman to be officially added to Ralph’s training-camp roster, joining Jake Rutt.
The Steelheads open the regular season on Friday, October 16, at home against the Rapid City Rush. It is the first of 36 home games for the team, each of which will be played at CenturyLink Arena.
Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting as low as $275 per seat for all 36 home games. Partial-season packages are also available. Contact the Idaho Steelheads at 208-383-0080 for more information or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
