West Valley City, UT (3/27/2015) – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Friday morning that forward Jesse Root has re-joined the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads after being assigned to the team by Texas of the American Hockey League and defenseman Zack Kamrass has been added to the team's roster.
Both are expected to be in the Idaho lineup Friday night when the Steelheads take on the Utah Grizzlies at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. Game time is 7:10 PM and can be heard live on KTIK 1350 AM.
Root and Kamrass played against each other in the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four semifinals, with Root's Yale Bulldogs defeating Kamrass's Massachusetts-Lowell team in overtime en route to the NCAA championship.
Root, 25, has been a point-per-game player (10 games, 10 points) in two brief stints with Idaho in the ECHL. He has spent the bulk of the season with Texas where he has five goals in 37 games in his first professional season.
Kamrass, 24, is turning pro after serving as UMass-Lowell's captain this past season. The Atlanta, Georgia, native is coming off a career-best eight-goal/15-assist season for the River Hawks. He was part of the winningest senior class in program history.
Idaho returns home next week to host the Alaska Aces on Wednesday, April 1, before welcoming the Colorado Eagles back to Boise for games on Friday and Saturday (April 3 and 4) at CenturyLink Arena. The weekend dates will be the team's final charity jersey auction of the season as the team will wear special jerseys to be auctioned off to raise money for the Jayden DeLuca Foundation.
