Boise, ID (1/8/15) – The Idaho Steelheads, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced Thursday that goaltender Olivier Roy has been selected to represent the team at the 2015 CCM / ECHL All-Star Classic presented by Visit Orlando.
The game will be played on Wednesday, January 21, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. The game will feature a team of ECHL All-Stars, including Roy, taking on the host Orlando Solar Bears.
The 23-year-old Roy is tied for the ECHL lead in wins (17) and shutouts (3). He also ranks in the league’s top five in minutes played (1533, 2nd) and goals-against average (2.31, 4th). The fourth-year pro out of Quebec is approaching his professional career-high for wins in a season (20), which he accomplished last season while playing with three different teams between the ECHL and American Hockey League.
He joins Tyler Beskorowany (’11), Richard Bachman (’10), Kellen Briggs (’08) and Frank Doyle (’05) as Idaho goaltenders to be named ECHL All Stars. Doyle was named the game’s MVP following the National Conference’s 6-2 win over the American Conference in Reading, PA.
Roy and the Steelheads open a season-long six-game homestand Friday night when the Alaska Aces come to town. Tickets are available online at www.idahosteelheads.com or by calling 208-331-8497. The same two teams will play Saturday night on Blue Cross of Idaho Cap Night.
