Boise, ID (10/9/14) – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Thursday that defenseman Mike Dalhuisen and forward Jesse Root have joined the Idaho Steelheads after being assigned to the team by the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.
Idaho (ECHL) and Texas (AHL) are the primary development affiliates of the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
Dalhuisen (pronounced dal-WHEE-sen) is a second-year professional out of Quinnipiac University who played in the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals last season as a member of the Cincinnati Cyclones. He split the season between Cincinnati and Stockton and, while with the Thunder, he was second among Stockton’s defensemen in goals with seven, despite playing just 32 games with the team.
Root, 24, is entering his first full pro season after serving as captain at Yale as a senior last season. He was a key part of the Bulldogs’ 2013 NCAA championship team, scoring a goal in the title game against Dalhuisen’s Quinnipiac squad. Earlier in that tournament, Root set an NCAA record by scoring a game-winning overtime goal just nine seconds into the extra session to end the Western Regional semifinal game.
The Steelheads current roster now features five players assigned by the Stars’ organization – Dalhuisen, Root, Troy Vance, Henri Kiviaho and Maxime Lagace.
The Steelheads will host the annual Season-Ticket Holder Only game on Friday, October 10, at CenturyLink Arena. The team opens the regular season on the road on October 17 before playing its home opener on Saturday, October 18, against the Utah Grizzlies. Tickets are on sale by contacting the CenturyLink Arena Box Office.
Group outings at a Steelheads game are a great way to gather friends, colleagues, or co-workers for a fun night out in downtown Boise. Ticket prices are discounted and you can get a Pepsi, Double-R Ranch Hot Dog, and bag of Tim’s Cascade Chips with each ticket.
