Boise, ID (8/8/14) – The Idaho Steelheads will add a new banner to the CenturyLink Arena wall on January 17, officially retiring jersey no. 16 in honor of long-time captain Marty Flichel, as part of a busy promotions schedule for the 2014-15 season.
Flichel will be just the third player in the team’s history to have his number retired, joining Cal Ingraham (no. 22) and Jeremy Mylymok (no. 4).
It starts with Schedule Magnet giveaway on Opening Night, October 18, as the team will host the first of seven, on-ice team autograph sessions following the game against the Utah Grizzlies.
The schedule includes fan favorites like Pepsi Puck Night (Nov. 22), CenturyLink Cap Night (Dec. 13) and Mini-Stick Night (Feb. 14). The annual Teddy Bear Toss event, where fans are encouraged to throw a stuffed animal on the ice after Idaho’s first goal to benefit Toys for Tots, is scheduled for December 13 against the Alaska Aces.
There will be three specialty-jersey auctions during the season, December 5-6 for St. Luke’s, “Pink in the Rink” on March 6-7 and the Jayden DeLuca Foundation jersey auction on April 3-4.
More promotions may be added at a later date.
The centerpiece, however, is the jersey-retirement ceremony in January for Flichel, the organization’s all-time leader in games played (436), goals (148), assists (260) and points (408). A banner displaying the number 16 will be hung on the north end of CenturyLink Arena, next to Ingraham’s 22 and Mylymok’s 4.
Season tickets for the 2014-15 season are already on sale, starting at just $275 to secure the same seat for all 36 home games. There are also partial-season plans available for fans seeking more flexibility. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com for more information.
