Fyten's four-point night keys road win

Bakersfield, CA (12/29/12) ? Austin Fyten scored twice, added two assists, and picked up a fighting major as well on Saturday night, lifting the Idaho Steelheads to a 4-1 road win at Bakersfield. Idaho snaps a three-game winless streak with the victory and improves to 19-7-4 overall. The Steelheads also got three-point nights from Justin Dowling and Tristan King along with 30 saves from Tyler Beskorowany in the win. Fyten drew first blood at 7:44 of the first, finishing a Dowling feed off a Condor defensive-zone turnover to make it 1-0. Fyten would return the favor at 16:26 with a centering pass from behind the net to Dowling, who ripped home his tenth of the season from the slot to make it 2-0. Bakersfield would get a late goal in the first period from Francis Meillieur to make it 2-1 after twenty minutes. Idaho scored quickly in the second to extend the lead to two goals as Tristan King carried the puck from the right corner across the circle and slot, waiting for Bakersfield goaltender Brian Stewart to commit before lifting a back-hander over Stewart for his 11th of the season at 1:08 of the frame to make it 3-1. For the rest of the period, it was Idaho's penalty kill, spearheaded by Tyler Beskorowany, that controlled play as the Steelheads killed off three Condor man advantages as Idaho led 3-1 after two periods. The final dagger came quickly in the third period as well. A pretty, three-man rush by Dowling, King, and Fyten ended in Fyten's second of the night and eighth of the season at 1:03 to make it 4-1. Bakersfield never threatened after that. Defenseman Matt Case finished with a plus-4 rating on the night, improving to a team-best plus-19 on the season. Fyten was also plus-4, tied for the single-game team-high in plus/minus this season, to improve to plus-14.Beskorowany stopped 30 of 31 to pick up his eighth win of the season for Idaho. Stewart stopped 29 of 33 in the loss for the Condors. Neither team converted on the power play as Idaho went 0-4 on the man advantage but the team's penalty-kill unit was a perfect six-for-six. Idaho plays at Las Vegas Sunday afternoon with a 2 PM (Pacific) start time at the Orleans Arena. The Steelheads return home on January 4 to host Bakersfield at CenturyLink Arena.
