Engelage, Utah holds off hard-charging Steelheads

West Valley City, UT (10/13/12) ? Utah goaltender Andrew Engelage stopped 35 of 36 Idaho shots Saturday night as the Grizzlies held off the Idaho Steelheads, 2-1. The Steelheads pressured the Utah net all night for, for the second consecutive game, Engelage came up big. Early in the first period, new Steelhead forward David de Kastrozza broke loose for a breakaway only to see it snuffed out by the Utah netminder. He was stop Matt Case on a breakaway early in the third period as well. Utah scored twice in the second frame, the first coming at the 1:11 of the period off a turnover by the Steelheads as Colin Vock took advantage with his first of the season. The Grizzlies would get the eventual game-winner later in the second as Paul McIlveen netted his first of the season at 14:36 of the second, making it 2-0. Idaho finally broke through midway through the third period when de Kastrozza and Tristan King kept a loose puck alive. Finally, King found Matt Case at the top of the right-hand circle and the Idaho defenseman blasted a shot past Engelage to make it a 2-1 game. The Steelheads were unable to get the equalizer down the stretch, dropping to 0-2 on the young season. Tyler Beskorowany stopped 24 of 26 shots in the loss. Neither team scored on the power play as Idaho went 0-4 on the man-advantage and Utah was 0-3. Idaho remains on the road with three games next week in Colorado, returning home on October 24 to host the Ontario Reign at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.
