Steelheads ask hockey community to help fan

For the hockey players who suit up for the Idaho Steelheads, it?s about getting better on the ice. Sometimes, for their fans, it?s about getting on the ice at all. The Steelheads are asking their fans, along with hockey fans across the ECHL, to help 16-year-old Ty Ulmer to get on the ice to play hockey. Ty survived a bout with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that cost him the lower part of his right leg. As you can imagine, prosthetic limbs are not cheap ? especially for a growing young man, as Ty will grow out of the one he currently has ? and the Ulmer family hopes that a new prosthetic leg will help give the teenager the sense of independence and normalcy that everyone deserves. ?The Ulmers have been great fans of the Steelheads and have helped us out a lot through the team?s booster club,? Team President Eric Trapp said. ?We?d love to see Ty playing hockey on the CenturyLink Arena ice and he needs our help to make that happen.? Click here to read more about Ty, his family, and how you can help. The team?s all-time leading scorer, Marty Flichel, and play-by-play broadcaster, Will Hoenike, have already contributed to Ty?s fund. ?This isn?t just for Steelhead fans,? Trapp continued. ?This is a chance for hockey fans to help other hockey fans. To show what a great community, here in Boise and the hockey community at large, we?re a part of.?
