Idaho wins inaugural "Black and Blue Rivalry Game"

(Boise, ID) ? A spirited crowd of 2,100 fans spent their Saturday afternoon at Boise?s CenturyLink Arena, watching the inaugural Black and Blue Rivalry hockey game, featuring old foes Boise State and the University of Idaho. The visiting Vandals came away with the win, 9-3, on the strength of four goals from Mike Dunahoe. With the victory, Idaho will keep the Pulaski Trophy, which will be presented annually to the winning team. The trophy is named for wildland firefighter Ed Pulaski, who was instrumental in saving 40 men during the Great Idaho Fire of 1910. The trophy, fittingly, is a bronzed Pulaski ? a common hand tool used by wildland firefighters. The game was a fundraiser, generating more $16,000 for Elk?s Meals on Wheels of Ada County. More hockey is on the schedule at CenturyLink Arena for Saturday night as the ECHL?s Idaho Steelheads host the Colorado Eagles at 7 PM for its 14th-annual ?Teddy Bear Toss? night.
