(Bakersfield, CA) ? A four-goal second period and some big third-period saves from Jimmy Spratt propelled the Idaho Steelheads to a 4-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors Friday night. The game, played in Bakersfield's Rabobank Arena, was played in front of 4.924 enthusiastic fans. Neither team scored in the first period but Idaho exploded for four tallies in the second frame. The Steelheads started early on Jacob Cepis's third goal of the season, a rebound goal off of a Kael Mouillierat shot, to put Idaho up, 1-0, just 32 seconds into the second period. Just over three minutes later, the Steelheads extended the lead on a nice two-man play between Derek LeBlanc and Aaron Lewadniuk. LeBlanc carried the puck into the zone, forced a Condor defenseman to commit to him, and then fed Lewadniuk for his third goal of the season, putting Idaho up 2-0. The Steelheads scored a third goal at 12:05 of the period when David Fredriksson's wrist shot from the top of the left-hand circle beat Bryan Pitton to go up 3-0. Fredriksson has now collected at least one point in eight consecutive games for Idaho. After the Condors scored to cut Idaho's lead to two, Mouillierat scored the eventual game-winner on a feed from Lewadniuk, stuffing a backhand past Pitton on the right-hand side of the crease to put Idaho up 4-1 after two periods. Bakersfield made things interesting with a pair of Matt Marquardt goals inside the final ten minutes of the third period. The Condors nearly tied things up late in the third, but the strong left leg of Jimmy Spratt kept the puck from crossing the goal line on a Bakersfield stuff attempt. Idaho (4-7-2) was able to hold on after that for the win as the team now has picked up points in five of its past six games. Spratt finished the night with 38 saves on 41 Bakersfield shots. Pitton stopped 13 of 17 before being pulled after two periods. Matt Keetley stopped all ten shots he saw in relief for Bakersfield. Idaho was 2-6 on the power play while Bakersfield went 1-3 with the extra attacker. The Steelheads and Bakersfield meet again Saturday night in California.. The game begins at 8 PM (Mtn) and can be heard live on KTIK (1350 AM) in the Treasure Valley. Idaho returns home Friday, November 18, to host the defending Kelly Cup champion Alaska Aces.
