Idaho falls in Alaska

(Anchorage, AK) ? The Alaska Aces poked one puck into the net in each period and Gerald Coleman stopped all 22 Idaho shots as the Aces shut out Idaho, 3-0, Saturday night at Sullivan Arena in front of 4,334 fans. After being out-shot badly in the first period in the first two games of the weekend set, Idaho (1-4) came out firing early. The Steelheads generated a couple of good early scoring chances, but couldn't find the next. Kael Mouillierat was whistled for goaltender interference at 2:36 of the first and Nick Mazzolini scored on the ensuing power-play to give Alaska a 1-0 lead. Idaho kept battling, though. Tristan King just missed tying the game on a great individual move, but his puck slid just inches wide of the net after deking Coleman. The 1-0 score held until the mid point of the second period when Alaska maneuvered into a 2-on-1 rush. Tyler Ruegsegger threaded the puck to Zach Harrison, who beat Steve Christie with the one-timer to make it 2-0, which was the score at the end of two periods of play. Early in the third period, Idaho (1-4) had a chance to cut into the lead, but Coleman made a splendid glove save on Michael Neal to keep it 2-0. Alaska (5-0) would add an insurance goal at 16:36 of the third as Reugsegger picked up a loose puck and beat Christie to finish the scoring. Christie stopped 32 of 35 shots in the loss. Idaho's penalty kill was strong once again, denying seven of eight Alaska man advantages. Idaho's power play went 0-2. Idaho stays on the road next week with games at Bakersfield (Fri, Oct. 28) and Stockton (Sat, Oct. 29). The Steelheads return home on Wednesday, November 2, to face the Las Vegas Wranglers.
