Former Steelhead forward Richard Clune has re-signed with the Los Angeles Kings organization, inking a one-year deal for the 2011-12 season. Clune spent all of last season in the American Hockey League with the Manchester Monarchs, the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America. The 24-year-old was the only player in the AHL to register at least 20 points and 200 penalty minutes. In all, he has 574 penalty minutes in 184 AHL games along with 53 points (18 goals, 35 assists). He spent part of the 2007-08 season in Idaho with the Steelheads, picking up ten points (one goal, nine assists) in 19 games in an Idaho sweater. He also had 41 penalty minutes. Clune made his NHL debut during the 2009-10 season, appearing in 14 games with the Kings. He had a pair of assists and 26 penalty minutes along the way. He was originally drafted in the third round of the 2005 NHL amateur draft by the Dallas Stars. The Stars traded him to the Kings organization in July 2008. The Toronto, Ontario, native is one of four members of the ?07-?08 Steelhead team to reach the NHL, along with forward Tom Wandell, forward Aaron Gagnon, and goaltender Matt Zaba. The 2011-12 Steelhead season gets underway on October 14 when Idaho travels to Utah to face the Grizzlies. Idaho?s home opener is the following night when the same two teams meet in Boise.
