(Boise, ID) ? Defenseman Cody Lampl and the Idaho Steelheads received 2011 Boise Education Association ?Friend of Education? awards for their work at Frank Church Alternative High School in Boise. The awards were presented at a school assembly at Frank Church on Thursday morning. ?I really appreciate the students and staff here at Frank Church letting me come out and help,? Lampl said after receiving the award in front of the students. ?I also appreciate the Steelhead organization being so supportive of the school and what we?re doing here.? Lampl worked with the school to create ?Cody?s Crew,? an incentive program to reward students for good grades, good attendance, and good behavior. The program is concluding its second year and, with Lampl acting as the program?s ambassador in the school, the Steelheads have donated nearly 1,000 tickets over two seasons to students at Frank Church that reached their goals in those areas. Lampl has also been a very active volunteer, mentor, and tutor at the school, visiting the school on his own time throughout the school year. He sometimes visits two or three times per week, as his schedule allows. Teammates Steve Oleksy and Matt Tassone were frequent guests of Lampl?s on his visits. ?We?re very proud of Cody,? Steelheads president Eric Trapp said. ?He?s been an excellent role model in the community for us.? The ?Friend of Education? Award is awarded annually by the Boise Education Association to those who have donated time, talent, and energy to help the educational process in Boise schools. The 25-year-old Lampl hails from Ketchum, Idaho, making him the first player with Idaho roots to play for the Steelheads. In two seasons, he has 28 points (one goal, 27 assists) in 97 regular-season games. He has also appeared in 17 playoff games for the team. Ticket plans are already available for the 2011-2012 season. Full-season plans start at just $275 per seat for all 36 home games with partial-season plans also available. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 for more information.
