Idaho picks up shootout win over Stockton

(Stockton, CA) ? Tyler Beskorowany turned aside 33 of 36 Stockton Thunder shots and all five shootout attempts to key a 4-3 win over the home-standing Thunder Friday night in front of 5,640 fans in Stockton. The victory stopped Stockton's eight-game winning streak. The Thunder netted the game's first goal, a nifty back-handed tally from ECHL All-Star MVP Mark Arcobello at 4:14 of the first period to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. The game would stay that way until midway through the second period when Idaho (20-16-3-6) would find the net twice in a 40-second span to take the lead. The first goal came off the stick of Mark Derlago, who poked home a loose puck in front of the net to tie the game at the 6:30 mark of the second period. Evan Barlow and Kael Mouillierat got the assists on Derlago's 23rd goal of the season. Just 40 seconds later, off of a Thunder turnover in their own zone, Geoff Irwin beat Bryan Pitton to give Idaho a 2-1 lead. Irwin's sixth of the season was matched barely 90 seconds later by Stockton defenseman Steve Vanoosten, leaving the two teams tied at three going into the third period. Derlago gave Idaho a 3-2 lead early in the third period with a low-angle shot from the bottom of the circle at 1:10 of the third, once again assisted by Barlow and Mouillierat. Dan Ringwald's first of the season with just over six minutes left in regulation tied the game, forcing overtime. Neither team scored in the extra session before Beskorowany stood tall in the shootout session, stopping Arcobello, Jarrett Konkle, Chris Lawrence, Ringwald, and Bretton Cameron to secure the win. Pitton only gave up one tally on four shots in the shootout, Marty Flichel's beebee through the wickets, but that's all it took as Idaho picked up the all-important second point in Stockton. With the win, Beskorowany improves to 7-3-1-3 in net for Idaho. Pitton falls to 14-4-0-2. COORS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME - Mark Derlago (2 G) AQUA FINA THREE STARS: 1. Marty Flichel (Idaho) 2.
