ECHL to name "All Decade" team

(Boise, ID) ? The ECHL announced on Monday that it is accepting nominations for a league-wide ?All-Decade Team? to honor the top players in the league between 2000-2010. Teams and fans can nominate players by e-mailing ECHL@echl.com through September 17. The team will consist of six forwards, four defensemen, two goaltenders, and one coach. Starting in early October, fans will have the opportunity to vote for players at www.echl.com and the team will be announced in November. To be eligible, players must have skated or coached in at least four seasons in the ECHL between 2000 and 2010. Only achievements and accolades accumulated during that timeframe should be taken into consideration when nominating or voting for a player or coach. The Steelheads nominated long-time captain and all-time leading scorer Marty Flichel for the honor. Flichel has played 351 regular-season games for Idaho between 2004-2010, scoring 122 goals and handing out 221 assists in that stretch. Both marks are ECHL team records for the organization. He has also scored 17 goals in 52 playoff games, helping the Steelheads win the 2007 ECHL Kelly Cup championship and reach the 2010 Kelly Cup Finals. The 34-year-old Flichel was named first-team All-ECHL in 2007 after scoring 87 points in 70 regular season games. He added 22 more points that season in 22 playoff games as Idaho defeated Dayton to win its second Kelly Cup. Former Steelheads Darrell Hay, Lance Galbraith, and Scott Burt will also likely receive consideration. Former head coach Derek Laxdal, who led Idaho to the Kelly Cup finals twice and was named the 2009-2010 ECHL Coach of the Year, also merits consideration. The Steelheads open the regular season on October 15 when they host the Victoria Salmon Kings at Qwest Arena. Ticket plans for the 2010-2011 season are available right now, starting at just $275 per seat for all 36 home games during the regular season. Partial-season plans are also available. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 for more information.
