Former Steelhead recalled by NHL's Capitals

The list of former Idaho Steelheads? hockey players in the National Hockey League grew by one on Tuesday when forward Jay Beagle was recalled by the Washington Capitals. Beagle, who had been playing with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, was a member of Idaho?s 2007 Kelly Cup championship team. The Caps are in New York Tuesday night to play the Rangers before returning home on Friday to host the Montreal Canadians. Beagle will be wearing jersey no. 83. The 24-year-old centerman had two separate stints with the Capitals last season, appearing in a total of three regular season games and four playoff games. He has not registered an NHL point yet. Beagle made his professional debut with the Steelheads, joining the team during the 2006-2007 season. He posted ten points in eight regular season games and then skated in 18 playoff games as Idaho went on to win the 2007 ECHL Kelly Cup championship. Forward Zenon Konopka (Tampa Bay), forward Tom Wandell (Dallas), forward BJ Crombeen (Saint Louis), and goaltender Dan Ellis (Nashville) are other former Steelheads currently playing in the NHL. The 2009-2010 version of the Idaho Steelheads return home Wednesday night to host the Victoria Salmon Kings. The two teams will also meet at Qwest Arena in downtown Boise on Friday and Saturday night. Gametime all three nights is 7 PM. Tickets are available by contacting the Qwest Arena box office at 208.331.TIXS.
