The Idaho Steelheads (33-18-4) escaped with a 3-2 win over the Victoria Salmon Kings (31-20-6) in front of 3,230 fans at Qwest Arena this evening. The first period saw only one goal. Garett Bembridge scored on the power play, with assists going to Kory Scoran and Darrell Hay. The goal was the 19th of the season for Bembridge, and it came at 7:22 of the opening frame. Most of the game?s scoring came in the second period. Darryl Lloyd netted the equalizer for Victoria at 12:49, assisted by Wes Goldie and Chris St. Jacques. Less than four minutes later, Kris Sparre put the Steelheads in the lead for the second time in the game, as he scored his 15th at 16:37, assisted by Dan Welch and Darrell Hay. Just over a minute later, Wes Goldie would score his 43rd of the year, assisted by Darryl Lloyd and Olivier Filion. The game headed to the second intermission in a 2-2 tie. The lone goal of the third period is one that Kyle Radke will forever remember; his first professional goal, and the game-winner in tonight?s game, assisted by Brent Shepheard and Adam Welch at 13:22. However, the way the goal got by Victoria goalie Todd Ford was unconventional, to say the least. The puck deflected several feet in the air, to the point where Ford, and all the other players on the ice lost track of the puck. When the puck finally dropped to the ice, it landed a few inches behind the goal line to put the Steelheads on top, 3-2. That?s how the game would end. Matt Climie earned his 20th win of the season, stopping 20 of 22. He is now 20-10-1 in his first pro campaign. Todd Ford suffers the loss, stopping 34 of 37. He is now 15-11-0. The Steelheads and Salmon Kings are back in action Friday night at Qwest Arena. The puck drops at 7:10.
