Burn Rookie QB Royal Gill led a ferocious comeback as the Burn rallied from a 30-0 deficit to defeat the Stockton Lightning 51-43. The Burn were carried by their defense which recorded 3 interceptions and 5 sacks in the victory. The Lightning got off to a quick start recovering a fumble on the Burn?s first drive and getting a 19 yard TD run by Peter Tuialuuluu for the early 7-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, Carl Walker took another Burn fumble 27 yards for a score and the 14-0 lead. Up 21-0, the Lightning defense sacked QB Royal Gill on his first professional snap for a safety giving Stockton the 23-0 lead. In the second quarter Hannibal Thomas?s 8 yard TD catch put Stockton on top 30-0 with 11:23 left to go in the 2nd quarter. The Burn would find the endzone for the first time when Gill connected with Casey Allen for a 44 yard TD making it 30-7 at half. The Burn (1-1) took over in the second half after recovering a fumble on the first snap from scrimmage. Ahmad Harris took the pith for the score getting Boise to within 15 after the 2 point conversion. Chris Bruhn made it a 7 point game at 30-23 after picking off Chad Elliot and returning it 33 yards for the score. George Williams capped off the 3rd quarter scoring with a 7 yard TD run, one of 2 on the night for Williams. Boise trailed 30-29 after 3. In the 4th quarter, Deronn Finley returned a kick 53 yards for a TD, Gill had a 1 yard TD run and Williams added another TD run, this time from 5 yards out as the burn rallied all the way back from 30 points down to win their first game of the year 51-43. Burn Linebacker Chris Bruhn led the way on defense recording 2 sacks and and interception returned for a TD.
