BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (@Steelheads), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the Dallas Stars (@DallasStars), and Steelheads Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Everett Sheen announced today the leadership group for the Steelheads for the 2026-27 Season.
Forward Ty Pelton-Byce has been named Captain of the Steelheads for the 2026-27 season.
Pelton-Byce enters his fifth season with Idaho after posting 41 points (13G, 28A) in 59 games last season. He ranks fifth all-time in Steelheads history in points, just three shy of overtaking Jefferson Dahl and Lance Galbraith for third.
“Ty is very deserving of being the captain,” Head Coach Everett Sheen said. “He’s been here for five years now, and he exemplifies what it means to be a Steelhead. He leads on the ice, off the ice, and plays every situation for us. He’s just a true leader and someone who knows what it takes day in and day out to uphold the standards of the Steelheads.”
Pelton-Byce succeeds forward Nick Canade as team captain. Canade served as Idaho’s captain for a single season last campaign and spent a total of four seasons in Idaho playing both forward and defense.
“It’s an honor,” Pelton-Byce said. “This will be my fifth year here. I’ve witnessed the history of this program and all the captains that came before me. I played with two great ones in A.J White and Nick Canade, so just to be in any type of category with those two is pretty special. I’m super honored and excited to do what I can to help the team win a Kelly Cup.”
Additionally, the Steelheads elected forward Jade Miller and defenseman Sam Jardine to serve as alternate captains.
Miller, also entering his fifth season in Idaho, comes off a career-best 17 goals and 34 points last season with the Steelheads, in which he was also an alternate captain. He carries six total years of ECHL experience into this season after two years with the South Carolina Stingrays and four with the Steelheads.
Jardine, 33, enters his 11th professional season with over 500 professional games and 300 ECHL games under his belt. The two-time Kelly Cup Champion enters his second season with the Steelheads and also served as an alternate captain last season.
The Idaho Steelheads kick off their 29th season tonight at New Mexico and will host the Allen Americans on October 23rd for their home opener.
