BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (@Steelheads) and St. Luke’s Health System have announced the total donations from the Pink In the Rink Weekend Jersey Auction on Jan. 24 and 25 at the Idaho Central Arena. Steelheads fans contributed $30,800 with all the proceeds going towards the St. Luke’s Breast Care Services, which include screening and diagnostic mammography, genetic counseling at their High-Risk Breast Clinic, comprehensive breast cancer treatment, and survivor support.
Fans had the opportunity to purchase a game worn specialty jersey designed by Steelheads front office member Karl Winks surrounding the theme of pink and worn last Friday and Saturday. Matt Register and Tomas Sholl’s jerseys sold-out with a bid of $2,500.
Since the Pink In The Rink began in the 2005-06 season, the Steelheads and St. Luke’s have raised $361,825 toward cancer research and treatment in Idaho and since the club partnered up with St. Luke’s for jersey auctions since the 1997-98 season a grand total of $742,864 has been raised.
“St. Luke’s is committed to raising awareness for breast cancer screening and empower individuals to take charge of their health,” said Jessica Herr, DNP with St. Luke’s Breast Care Services. “Early detection through regular screenings like mammograms can save lives by catching breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. Many people are unaware of the importance of routine screenings or may delay getting checked due to fear or misconceptions. By spreading the message that early detection is key, we can help reduce breast cancer mortality rates and encourage people to prioritize their health. If you're 40 or older, or have a family history of breast cancer, talk to your healthcare provider about when to start regular mammograms. Share this message with friends and family, and encourage them to get checked—because together, we can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer!
The Steelheads are on the road Friday, Saturday, and Monday at Utah with puck-drop at 7:10 p.m. (MT).
