McGuire, 27, joined the Steelheads in August 2022 after spending the previous three years with the Worcester Railers HC (ECHL). He was named the 2021-22 ECHL Broadcaster of the Year with Worcester, serving in various roles within the organization including broadcasting, media/public relations, and hockey operations.
“It is a true honor to be recognized by the ECHL,” McGuire said. “Although this is an individual award, I can confidently say that a massive amount of credit goes out to the Steelheads front office, players, and coaches for helping me achieve this honor. The Steelheads organization is a tremendous team to be a part of and I would not be here today without their support.”
The Ridgefield, CT native served as the voice of the Steelheads and the team’s primary media contact for one of the most historic on-ice seasons in ECHL history. The regular media presence he garnered for the team on and off the ice is believed to be the most media coverage in team history. In addition, McGuire was able to connect the local media by welcoming a local sports personality as a color commentator.
On air, McGuire exemplified unwavering professionalism while combining a deep knowledge of the game with a lighthearted personality to engage listeners. He kept the Steelheads fan base connected each game day with his heralded “Predict the Fish” video series for home games, and his “Two Things with Cam” segments on the road. Both features incorporated interesting and engaging content that showcased an excellence in storytelling.
In addition, McGuire hosted the Steelheads Hockey Show on KTIK 95.3 FM The Ticket which aired live every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6-7 p.m. During the team’s record-breaking season, he tracked franchise and league records, keeping meticulous documentation and serving as the primary knowledge source for both the team and league.
