BE HIP, GET FIT, PLAY HOCKEY!
The Idaho Steelheads teamed up with Blue Cross of Idaho and The Idaho Statesman to teach children the benefits of eating healthy and living an active lifestyle. This year we are visiting elementary schools throughout the Treasure Valley with our Be Hip, Get Fit, Play Hockey message. During each visit, Steelheads players give the children tips on eating healthy and show how much fun being active is by engaging in an exciting game of floor hockey. If you are interested in the Idaho Steelheads visiting your school contact Karl Winks at 208-472-3633.

Six Simple Steps to Promote a Healthy Lifestyle
- Stay active: play together inside and outside
- Make family meals a special time together
- Eat less fast food & more nutritious meals at home
- Try snacking on tasty fruits and veggies
- Drop the TV & video games, try reading together
Be Hip: Eat healthy food
You truly are what you eat. Eating more fruits and vegetables is a good source of vitamins and minerals as well as a natural source of sugar. Throughout the day, be sure to drink lots of water and try to stay away from sugary drinks. Remember, 10% dehydration can cause 20% decrease in performance, and you always want to be performing at your best!
Get Fit: Be active
Don’t forget to stretch! Warm up before any activity. Keep your body loose to help prevent strains and sprains. Pick an activity or sport that you enjoy.
Play Hockey: Be fit!
Frequency: Be consistently active. Play hockey or some other physical activity.
Intensity: Work hard and enjoy yourself.
Time: 20 to 30 minutes of activity 2 to 3 times per week.
Type: Change your routine… play hockey or a game, go for a walk, ride your bike.
Enjoyment: Be sure to have fun! Gather up your friends and play a game of street hockey.
