BOISE, Idaho – Goaltender Jake Kupsky has agreed to terms with the Idaho Steelheads for the 2020-21 season, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Everett Sheen announced Thursday.
Kupsky, 24, joined the Steelheads for two games during the 2019-20 campaign after he was loaned from the SPHL’s Pensacola Ice Flyers. The 6-foot-3, 194-pound netminder compiled a 1-1-0 record with a 1.98 GAA which included a 2-1 overtime victory against the Tulsa Oilers on January 17th.
“I’m really looking forward to being back in Boise,” said Kupsky. “I loved my time there last year and I can’t wait to get to work with the guys soon.”
Following his stint with the Steelheads, the Waukesha, Wisconsin native went on to play six games for the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits in which he put up a 3-1-1 record with a 2.20 GAA.
Prior to his professional career, Kupsky played four seasons of collegiate play at Union College and worked to a 23-22-5 record in 59 career games with a 2.86 GAA and .900 save pct. with one shutout while also earning All-ECAC Hockey Third Team selection in 2017-18 season and being named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List in 2018-19. Kupsky was selected 193rd overall (7th Round) by the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 NHL Draft.
“Jake had a tremendous showing for us last season in his short stint with us.” said Steelheads Head Coach Everett Sheen. “He is an excellent goaltender who has proven his abilities at every level. We are excited to see how his game can grow given a full season here in Idaho.”
Kupsky is the 12th player announced to the Steelheads for the 2020-21 season.
