BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads (29-17-3) return to CenturyLink Arena for a three-game weekend and open a six-game homestand following three weeks on the road.

LAST WEEK…

Wednesday, February 6 @ Utah Grizzlies: 4-1 LShots: Steelheads 20, Grizzlies 28PP: Steelheads 0-for-6, Grizzlies 2-for-6

The Steelheads slipped 4-1 from Maverik Center. The Grizzlies opened the scoring early to take a 1-0 lead followed by the lone answer from the Steelheads thanks to forward Kyle Schempp (16:45 1st) to tie the game, 1-1. The Grizzlies edged ahead in the second period and ensured the game with two goals in the third period for a 4-1 win. Tomas Sholl (15-8-0) turned away 24 of 28 shots in the loss.

Friday, February 8 @ Utah Grizzlies: 4-3 LShots: Steelheads 23, Grizzlies 34PP: Steelheads 1-for-5, Grizzlies 1-for-5

The Steelheads made a late push but fell 4-3 from Maverik Center. The Grizzlies claimed the only opening frame goal to take a 1-0 lead before forward Reid Petryk (2:17 2nd) answered to tie the game at 1-1. Two more Grizzlies goals re-gained then doubled the lead, 3-1, before a late game press. Forward Steve McParland (PP, 11:43 3rd) brought the road side within one before Utah doubled the lead again, 4-2. Despite a late goal by forward A.J. White (EA, 19:29 3rd) and a last-second effort, the Steelheads lost 4-3. Tomas Sholl (15-9-0) saved 30 of 33 shots in the loss.

Saturday, February 9 @ Utah Grizzlies: 4-2 LShots: Steelheads 25, Grizzlies 22PP: Steelheads 1-for-5, Grizzlies 0-for-8

The Steelheads battled but fell 4-2 from Maverik Center. The Grizzlies scored the first two goals in the opening period before defenseman Keegan Kanzig (PP, 8:11 2nd) deflected a shot to cut the lead in half, 2-1. The Grizzlies grabbed another goal followed by a goal from forward Steve McParland (PP, 17:35 2nd), bringing the lead back to 3-2. The Grizzlies scored one more on an empty net to secure the 4-2 scoreline. Ryan Faragher (7-4-1) halted 18 of 21 shots in the loss.

The Steelheads return to CenturyLink Arena while opening a six-game homestand with the first three games this weekend against the Rapid City Rush. The Steelheads have now won four-straight games against the Rush since November 24, all coming on the road. This will be the first time that the Steelheads host the Rush since their series-opening weekend from November 14 through November 17, and the Steelheads won two of three games in that set. On the season, the Steelheads are 7-1-1 in their 17-game season series with a chance to claim the series outright with at least two wins this weekend. The Steelheads are now 33-11-4 against the Rush and have won 18 of their last 22 meetings.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS…

CenturyLink Free Skate: The Steelheads and CenturyLink Arena will host a free skate, presented by the Idaho Statesman, on Sunday, Feb. 17 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Bring a canned food donation and receive a pair of tickets to the game on February 20 against the Tulsa Oilers. Free rentals will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, and limit one pair of tickets per person.

Beef Night On The Ice: The Idaho Beef Council will be at CenturyLink Arena this Saturday, February 16 when the Steelheads host the Rapid City Rush. The first 500 fans in attendance receive cowbells, and Ninja Cowboy, a legend on American Ninja Warrior. Plus, a portion of tickets sold through the Idaho Beef Council will benefit the Beef Counts program, and raffle tickets will be available to win a Yeti cooler.

Pop Socket Giveaway: In addition to cowbells, Steelheads fans will have an additional reason to show up early on Saturday night. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Steelheads phone pop socket, courtesy of Higgins & Rutledge. Vouchers will be given out that can be redeemed at the Steelheads Info Booth.

STEEL STATS…

Quick Bites:- Forward Steve McParland scored his second shorthanded goal on Saturday, moving him into the team lead in that category. Overall, the Steelheads have eight shorthanded goals, which is tied for eighth most in the ECHL.- The Steelheads finished their road trip hot on the power play, scoring goals in six of their last seven games while going 7-for-39 (17.9%). On the road trip, the Steelheads went 7-for-45 (15.6%) on the power play.- The Steelheads finished their season-long nine-game, three-week road trip with a 4-5-0 record. Last week was the first time since November 14 that the team had lost back-to-back games and the first time since November 10 that they had lost two games in the same week (12 weeks).
