Steelheads Post 58 Shots, Snag 2-1 Overtime Win Over Rush

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads (7-7-3) finished their six-game home stand with a 58-shot night en route to a 2-1 overtime win over the Rapid City Rush (7-6-3) on Saturday Night at CenturyLink Arena.

The Steelheads found the opening tally for the third-straight night. At 7:36 of the first period, Steelheads forward Steve McParland was led on a shorthanded breakaway by forward Kyle Schempp and cashed in to take an early 1-0 lead. Rush forward Mason McCarty found an answer at 17:29 to tie the game, 1-1. Both sides dipped more into physical play in the final minutes with Steelheads defenseman Colton Saucerman and forward Kale Kessy both getting into fights.

The Steelheads turned up the offensive pressure through the rest of the game, posting a season-high 22 shots in the second period and another 20 shots in the third period, however neither team could break the deadlock heading into overtime. In the extra period, Steelheads forward Spencer Naas found defenseman Eric Sweetman open in front of the net for a one-time shot at 2:53 of overtime to take a 2-1 win over the Rush and finish the week with five of six points.

The Steelheads recorded 58 shots during the game, which is the most this season and the most since Oct. 27, 2017 against the Quad City Mallards when they posted 59 shots.

Steelheads netminder Colton Point (2-0-1) halted 28 of 29 shots in the win, while Rush goaltender Adam Carlson (4-2-3) turned aside 56 of 58 shots in the overtime loss. The Steelheads and Rush continue their six-game stretch on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 7:05 p.m. from Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 1350AM KTIK and ECHL TV.

The Steelheads return to CenturyLink Arena on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:10 p.m. against the Jacksonville Icemen.
