RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Idaho Steelheads (8-8-3) were taken down 4-1 by the Rapid City Rush (8-7-3) on Friday night from Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The Rush came out with the opening goal for the first time in the series at 3:38 of the first period thanks to a deflection from forward Andrew Radjenovic to take a 1-0 lead. The Rush added a second at 9:05 on the power play from defenseman Josh Elmes on a rebound to double the lead, 2-0.
Tempers boiled over in the second period with four fights. However, the Rush notched one more tally at 5:40 on a shorthanded break from Radjenovic to triple the lead, 3-0.
The Rush added another goal at 0:58 of the third period from forward Quentin Lisoway to spread the lead to 4-0 before the Steelheads found an answer. At 5:51 on the power play, Steelheads forward Reid Petryk found a lane through traffic in the slot to cut the lead to three, 4-1. However, the Steelheads could not mount a comeback and fell to the Rush.
Rush netminder Adam Carlson (5-3-3) turned away 31 of 32 shots in the win, while Steelheads goaltender Sholl (3-3-0) halted 34 of 38 shots in the loss. The Steelheads and Rush finish their weekend series on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 7:05 p.m. from Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 1350AM KTIK and ECHL TV.
The Steelheads return to CenturyLink Arena on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:10 p.m. against the Jacksonville Icemen.
