WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Idaho Steelheads (3-3-1) split their two-game weekend thanks to a 3-2 overtime win over the Utah Grizzlies (4-0-2) on Saturday night at Maverik Center.
After a scoreless first period, special teams became a factor in the second period as the scoring opened. At 1:10, Steelheads forward Joe Pendenza put home a rebound from the right circle on their lone power play of the frame to jump ahead 1-0. The Grizzlies answered back on their own man-advantage at 9:29 on a rebound put in by forward Tim McGauley, tying the game at 1-1.
The Steelheads scored the first goal of the third period at 4:14 when forward Steve McParland was set up off the right post by forward to A.J. White, giving the road side a 2-1 lead. Grizzlies forward Caleb Herbert answered at 5:41 to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime.
In overtime, Steelheads forward Brad McClure sniped a shot from the right circle at 2:29 to give the Steelheads the 3-2 win and a split weekend. Steelheads goaltender Philippe Desrosiers (2-2-1) turned aside 33 of 35 shots in the win, while Grizzlies netminder Joe Cannata (2-0-2) halted 26 of 29 shots in the overtime loss.
The Steelheads meet the Indy Fuel for the first time in franchise history on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 5:05 p.m. MT from Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Coverage begins at 4:45 p.m. MT on 1350-AM KTIK and ECHL TV.
The Steelheads return to CenturyLink Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:10 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers.
